The links between Equity Trustees and the family and descendents of Major George Argo Turner, stretch back more than a century.

A proud military family, George Argo the second worked for 50 years with Victorian Railways. One of his daughters Marjorie, was the mascot of one aircrew in WW2 (they called her Venus) and her picture adorned the cockpit of their plane.

Marjorie’s daughter Laurie and her twin sister Lyndie have happy memories of going to the Equity Trustees offices through the decades from the 1940s onwards with their beloved grandmother Bertha Turner.

Laurie said: “We loved trips into the city and have great memories of those days visiting Equity Trustees in the old offices in Bourke Street”.

Laurie recalls: “In the 1990s, we met with Alan Gillespie from Equity Trustees. He helped Mum and the extended family with our affairs and he was marvellous, giving Mum peace of mind”.

Alan encouraged Marjorie to take a holiday with the family and they went to Merimbula in the summer before she died. Laurie remembers with great pleasure spending their last holiday together, having fun by the sea.

Descendants of Major George Argo Turner still benefit from the trust today and continue to partner with Equity Trustees, 130 years on.
