The NAIDOC Perth Awards recognise and acknowledge outstanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people, organisations and businesses who have made a significant contribution to the community in Perth. 

Equity Trustees is a proud sponsorship partner of the event and this year presented the 2020 Outstanding Achievement Award, announced on Friday 18 September and won by Dr Hannah McGlade, with runner Professor Sandra Eades. 

Dr Hannah McGlade, is a Noongar woman from Western Australia. Her career has focused on justice for Aboriginal people, race discrimination law and practice, Aboriginal women and children, family violence and sexual assault. and regularly writes, appears and advocates on human rights issues. She was the first Aboriginal woman to graduate from a Western Australian law school in 1995, and now holds a Masters in International Human Rights Law.

Currently Dr McGlade is a Senior Indigenous Research Fellow at Curtin University and an Advisor to the Noongar Council for Family Safety and Wellbeing. She is also a member of the United Nations Permanent Forum for Indigenous Issues, Western Australia Mental Health Tribunal and the Medical Board of Australia.

Professor Sandra Eades, also a Noongar woman, became Australia's first Aboriginal medical doctor to be awarded a PhD in 2003 and in March this year she took up an appointment as the Dean of the Curtin Medical School. She is the first indigenous Dean of Medicine in Australia, possibly worldwide.

She is a board member of the Burnett Institute, an Australian medical research institute that combines medical research in the laboratory and the field, with public health action to address major health issues affecting disadvantaged communities in Australia, a Board member of Outback Stores, a wholly owned Commonwealth company currently under the Prime Minister and Cabinet Portfolio which seeks to improve the health of Indigenous people in remote Australia by addressing nutrition-related health problems, unreliable food supplies, stores closing because of poor management and build-up of debt and a council member of the National Health and Medical Research Council, a statutory authority and the primary agency of the Australian Government responsible for medical and public health research. It is one of the ten largest funders of health research in the world.
