Support for small business and local communities following a natural disaster

Natural disasters can have devastating effects on small business and local communities.

Damaged or destroyed equipment can severely impact a business’ ability to recover quickly, often resulting in reduced productivity and revenue streams. Recovery can take a heavy toll on small and local business owners, their employees, and the broader community.

It is crucial that, in times of need, small business and local communities receive effective and timely assistance, as well as access to the resources and support needed to recover and rebuild.

Community rebuilding Trust and Bizrebuild

In response to the 2019-2020 Black Summer bushfires, the Business Council of Australia, in a joint initiative with Equity Trustees, founded the Community Rebuilding Trust (the “Trust”)*.

The Community Rebuilding Trust was established as a charitable trust to facilitate funding, received by donors, for the rebuilding and re-establishing of communities affected by natural disasters.

The Community Rebuilding Trust is part of a larger community rebuilding initiative known as BizRebuild - a business-led initiative established by the Business Council of Australia and overseen by the General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK, CVO, ME.

The Trust facilitates funding in collaboration with BizRebuild, who in turn provides advisory support and practical on-the-ground assistance to small business and local communities following a natural disaster.

Since 2020, nearly $10 million of funds has been generously donated to the Community Rebuilding Trust. These donated funds have been distributed, in partnership with BizRebuild, to small business and local communities affected by natural disasters throughout Australia.
