Equity Trustees takes on role in South Australian Firm Energy Reliability Mechanism
Equity Trustees is proud to be a part of a South Australian initiative to support secure, reliable electricity supply, and congratulates the South Australian Government on an important milestone in the project.
The Minister for Energy and Mining, Tom Koutsantonis MP announced on 29 May the successful outcome for South Australia Firm Energy Reliability Mechanism (SA FERM) Tender 1 for Long Duration Capacity.
The SA FERM is a South Australian Government initiative designed to bring forward investment in long duration dispatchable capacity projects that can support reliability during extended periods of low renewable generation and complement the state’s target of 100% net renewable electricity by 2027.
In February 2026, Equity Trustees was appointed by the SA FERM Scheme Administrator, AusEnergy Services Ltd (ASL), as the Financial Vehicle, for the SA FERM.
Mick O’Brien, Managing Director at Equity Trustees said he was pleased that Equity Trustees had the opportunity to play such a central part in Australia’s energy transition in the role of Financial Vehicle which is to hold and administer scheme funds and act as counterparty to FERMAs.
“This work in South Australia applies our experience and expertise in trusteeship, including our role as Financial Trustee under the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap, which we have held since September 2022,” he said.
“We bring nearly 150 years of experience in trust and fund governance and apply it ton this new challenge of ensuring Australians can take care of the future through access to affordable, secure and reliable energy.”
