The largest trust in the country dedicated to improving the experience of ageing for Australians, the Wicking Trust, has welcomed new funding partners to help improve the experience of dying, death and grieving. They include:
New South Wales
- A series of programs and podcasts created by Radio 2RPH will foster informed discussions on death and dying, sharing diverse stories and essential information with ageing Australians, including those with print disabilities.
Queensland
- Tender Funerals, in collaboration with First Nations knowledge-holders, is developing a death and funeral literacy program in far North Queensland that integrates First Nations wisdom.
South Australia
Victoria
- Through Hospice in the Home, Warrnambool & District Community Hospice will deliver free practical and emotional in-home support, companionship and carer respite.
- The Regional Community Vet Clinic offers companionship to older Victorians, helping maintain their bond with their pets and planning for their care after their passing.
- So You're Going to Die – Advice for First Timers: A Melbourne-based project will raise awareness about end-of-life planning. Delivered by Bridge Darebin and Inner North Community Foundation
- Rosehaven Hospice is partnering with a filmmaker to highlight rural communities reclaiming care for ageing and dying, inspiring others to build local, compassionate support systems.
- Compassionate Hearts on the Bellarine supports individuals with life-limiting illnesses and their families in the Bellarine Peninsula, offering free care and education to help them live and die well, at home.
Western Australia
- GRAI will host ‘death cafes’ and workshops in Perth to highlight the end-of-life experiences of older LGBTI individuals.
- Busselton Hospice Care will offers its volunteer-led palliative care services so that older Australians in the Busselton region of WA have access to high-quality end-of-life care.
- The Perron Institute, in partnership with the South West Compassionate Communities Network and the Ethnic Communities Council of WA will deliver culturally appropriate ‘Citizen Connector’ capacity-building workshops, aiming to build networks that respect diverse cultural needs at the end of life.
National
The Wicking Trust was established in 2002 by John and Janet Wicking, and is managed by Equity Trustees, is Australia’s most significant charitable trust investing in people, programs and research that improve the quality of life and death for older Australians.
